21 Notable Deaths in 2020

2020 has been a year that won’t soon be forgotten, losses in life, property

and jobs have reach levels that we haven’t witnessed in our lifetime. We are

reminded again how fragile we are as a specie. But history has also shown

us, how strong and resilient we are as humans.

It was just a few days ago that I passed a Church near downtown and

outside on the Church’s marquee were these encouraging words, “And This

Too, Shall Pass”. Reminding us that because this pandemic, the fires, floods,

the loss of jobs and such are temporal, they won’t last forever. It says in

the Bible, “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face

trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces

perseverance.” James 1:2-3, NIV

And with the many deaths worldwide this year,

I’m reminded of these words written way back in the

15th or 16th century:

“No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of

the continent, a part of the main. If a clod be washed away

by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory

were, as well as if a manor of thy friend’s or of thine own

were: any man’s death diminishes me, because I am involved

in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the

bells tolls; it tolls for thee.”

John Donne
